Turtle Island

Kendra Miller’s fifth grade class at Matt Elementary is working on the Turtle Island Learning Adventure which combines geographic land formations with the study of turtles.

The build, Turtle Island, has thirty land formations such as mountains, islands, coves, canyons, valleys, glaciers, etc. Students identify the different land formations and learn how geography affects the biological environment.

Turtle Island features 30 land formations.

Interactive presentation boards display student research.

Behind the Turtle Island headquarters, we find the Turtle Race. Whenever a student avatar answers a quiz question correctly, his or her turtle will move closer to the finish line.

First turtle across the finish line wins!

Students will also review decimals, tenths, hundredths and thousandths by changing the grazing range of the  Abominable Snow Turtle, a mythogical creature that many avatars on Turtle Island claimed to have seen.
